Explore the
student & teacher mindfulness journey

What are the actual steps involved along the way? Discover the process students and teachers go through on their mindfulness journey.

1: Discovering ones potential

We begin by teaching all participants about their mind and body. We introduce mindfulness techniques and exercises from the very beginning, such as quite and slow time.

2: Building strong relationships

We let students connect and build a relationship with us at their own pace. A relationship that dismantles hierarchy. Together, we share lived experiences, interests, and stories.

3: Listening, feeling, & expressing

Students explore their more inquisitive side. They begin asking questions and share what they’re going through. And most importantly, they develop compassionate listening skills.

4: Discovering happiness

We ask students and teachers what makes them happy and satisfied. We then collectively discuss empathy, love, and how we can work together to achieve happiness and satisfaction.

5: Finding balance

Life isn’t all sunshine and roses. We learn to cultivate gratitude and appreciation, so that everyone can find peace and return to a place of comfort, even at tough times.

6: Reflective practice

Students reflect on what they’ve learned in the past 14 weeks. They take on skills to solve new problems together, and how they can their share results with others.

“It’s rare to see students being quiet, attentive, asking grown-up questions and engaging with the lesson. Usually they are chatty and playing up”.

”I like coming to these lessons… I feel positive and they are really helping”

Ysgol Brynhyfryd

The pilot scheme proves that there is a need for mindfulness amongst students wanting support with exam stresses. Having delivered 6 weeks of mindfulness in February 2022 the results showed the best time to start the course is September when exam stress is at its lowest.

“I have enjoyed having time in school to de-stress and have a non-academic lesson”. “I will continue to do the practices I learned in the lessons”. “The ability to focus on little things around you as opposed to everything in a blur”.
